Minimising the carbon footprint of data while reducing cost is a challenge that Nordic Iceland rises to. 100% of the electricity on the Icelandic transmission and distribution grid is green, produced by highly cost effective harnessing of geothermal resources and the power of Iceland‘s glacial rivers. The electricity is not only Europe‘s most cost competitive but available via long term contracts, which ensure stability and predictability in the operations.

100% RENEWABLE ENERGY

All electricity on the Icelandic grid is produced using renewable hydro- and geothermal energy. In 2013 the total electricity production was 18 TWh. 71% from hydro and 29% from geothermal.

THE ELECTRICITY GRID

Iceland‘s Energy Infrastructure ranks among top 5 in the world according to IMD‘s World Competitiveness Yearbook 2016. Iceland’s electricity transmission grid is operated by Landsnet. The grid is circular and and with redundant routes to ensure high uptimes.
