COOL YEAR- ROUND CLIMATE
Iceland’s unique temperate oceanic climate makes year-round ambient cooling possible and thus optimises the Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) to save energy and costs.
Iceland’s unique temperate oceanic climate makes year-round ambient cooling possible and thus optimises the Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) to save energy and costs.
Power Usage Effectiveness measures how much of a data center’s power consumption is generating value. PUE=1 means that all power is consumed by value-adding actions performed by the IT equipment. According to a comparative research by PriceWaterhouseCoopers the PUE for existing data centers is often 1.8 to 2.5.
Cooling is the largest non-value adding factor in the power consumption. In an ideal climate, such as in Iceland, where data centers can enjoy virtually free cooling, all year round, the goal is PUE close to 1.
